Parent Letter:
Dear Parents,
Congratulations! Your child is now a cast member in Seussical Jr. This will be a great experience for your child.

Parent Performance: Thursday, April 6, 2017 at 6:00 pm in the Canyon View High School auditorium. Students will meet on the stage behind the curtain at 5:30 pm.

School Performances: Thursday, April 6, 2017 at 9:45 am at Three Peaks Elementary School and at 1:45 pm at North Elementary School (Field trip)

Yes, you read that right: THREE PERFORMANCES IN ONE DAY. Please make sure your child is well-fed, well-hydrated, and well-rested.

Rehearsal Times: Tuesdays and Thursdays after school until 4:45 pm. Please see the attached schedule. You are responsible for transportation home. There is no bus.

Snacks: Students may bring a snack from home to eat during our daily break.

Scripts: Due to copyright law, we cannot copy scripts for this play. Not everyone will receive one. If your child has a script, please take care of it! We can’t copy another.

Memorization: All students must have lines, music, and choreography memorized before the second time we practice a scene. This will require work at home.

Academic Ineligibility: We take homework very seriously. Students who fall behind in homework due to rehearsal time will be removed from the play.

Costumes: Each child needs to provide his or her own costume. Try thrift stores, shop online, or piece together items you already have. Students should bring costumes on April 4 and to the performances on April 6. All costumes must be appropriate for school. Please use something you can wear over school clothes for easy changing. Here are some ideas for each character:

Horton the Elephant
Wear gray, slouchy attire of your choice. Mrs. Walker will provide a hat with elephant ears.
Gertrude McFuzz
Wear a blue short-sleeved shirt and blue shorts, and bright striped tights or knee-high socks in any color if you can find them. Mrs. Walker will provide the dress with the hidden tail.
Sour Kangaroo and Young Kangaroo
Wear a purple shirt and pants. Mrs. Walker will provide a purple sparkly poncho/cover thing.
Backup Kangaroos
Wear a yellow or gold shirt and pants. Mrs. Walker will provide a gold sparkly poncho/cover thing.
The Wickersham Monkeys
Wear orange pants and a white t-shirt with a black leather jacket or vest (or one that looks leather-ish). We're going for a "greaser" look. Mrs. Walker will provide matching orange wigs.
Judge Yertle the Turtle
Wear graduation-style robes (green if you can find them) and a white judge wig. If you can find or make a turtleshell backpack, great!
Vlad Vladikoff
Wear all black. Mrs. Walker will provide scraggly wings.
Jungle Citizens
We are NOT looking for literal, full-body animal costumes. Just wear bright colors (especially bright purples, greens, and blues) with touches of animal elements, such as stripes, a tail, ears, etc. Seuss-style hair, bright wigs, feathers, puffballs, fur, and other wacky accessories are encouraged! Pictures for ideas:

Makeup: For the school performances, makeup is optional. For the parent performance, the bright lights at CVHS will wash out the faces, so every student must have eyeliner and lip color at least (yes, even boys!). Eyeliner and lip color are not safe to share at school, so students must apply those things at home.

Extra designs: (optional) Mrs. Walker has some face crayons to do fun extra designs at school, but they are not very bright, so you may want to use face paint at home if you want to do fun colors.

If you use face paints or acrylic paints at home, here are some other ideas:
Feather eyelash extensions, glitter, rhinestones, colored contacts, etc. are welcome! It's Dr. Seuss! Feel free to do blue giraffe spots, green zebra stripes, and crazy who-ville style hair or bright colored wigs!
